Mark L. Spach June 8, 1947-Jan. 4, 2015 Mark L. Spach, 67, died January 4, 2015 at Longleaf Neuro-Medical Treatment Center in Wilson as a result of Pick's Disease, a rare form of dementia. Born June 8, 1947 in Winston-Salem, he was predeceased by his parents, Alex A. Spach Sr. and Nora Smith Spach Johnson, and his stepfather, Ray B. Johnson. Mark graduated from R.J. Reynolds High School and was a member of the 1964 state high school championship football team. He was affectionately nicknamed "Eddie Haskell" by his high school friends due to his resemblance to the TV character on "Leave it to Beaver." Mark attended Carolina Military Academy on a football scholarship and later Elon College. After working for Wachovia Bank, he moved to Lake George, NY where he worked in the hospitality industry for many years. Upon his return to Winston-Salem, he became a dedicated member of Trinity Moravian Church, the church of his childhood. He was active with Trinity's Boy Scout program and was recognized for his work collecting cans and preparing them for recycling to raise money for scouting. He was known as a loveable, fun-loving person who had a positive attitude and strong faith. Mark is survived by his brother, Alex A. Spach II (Jo); niece, Sarah Spach Phillips; nephew, Will Spach (Tina); uncle, Curtis A. Spach, Jr. (Alice); aunt, Margaret Nyswonger; stepsister, Sterling Aaron; stepbrother, the Rev. Burke Johnson (Eleanor), and several loving cousins. The family is grateful for the excellent care Mark received from the staff at the Longleaf Center. A graveside service will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 10, 2015 at Salem Moravian Graveyard (God's Acre) by the Rev. John G. Rights.
