Obituary

Laura Rowe Weathers was born on April 27, 1945, in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. In 1965, she and Benjamin Ashley Weathers III were married and from that union, she found her great joy: two children and three grandchildren. Their home became the grandchildren’s haven with GI Joe and Star Wars toys under the baby grand piano and an electric train under the table where they would sit and play. Many times Laura was tirelessly working on materials to instruct the children through their journey in Bible Study Fellowship, a Christian fellowship, in which she served for many years. Laura worked beside her husband for 18 years at Veterinary Medical Supply as head of HR. She could get the job done! She and Benny traveled extensively to every continent. Many of their travels included traveling with past Cadets and wives from Carolina Military Academy from which Benny graduated. Always civic-minded, Laura was past President of the Hoe ’n Hope Garden Club, Secretary of the Wendell Historical Society, Board of Visitors at Southeastern Baptist Seminary, First Vice Regent/Secretary/Registrant of the Caswell-Nash Chapter of the DAR, member of the Woman’s Club of Raleigh serving on the Auctions and Fashion Show chairman. She was a Docent at the Executive Mansion in Raleigh. Laura was devoted to missions and traveled to Africa, Cambodia, Thailand, South America, and the Philippines. She supported an Agape Village in Africa, African Mercy Ship, Hope Reins in Raleigh (and many others) when travel was not possible. Her love of the Lord was evident in every aspect of her life. She enjoyed a good “spiritual debate.” Laura also enjoyed their home at Topsail Beach which her father built and especially enjoyed attending the Emma Anderson Memorial Chapel and the friendships they developed there.

As a born and bred Southerner, she loved Southern traditions. She named her children—Audrey Nell Weathers and Benjamin Ashley Weather IV—after the grandfathers. Also the grandchildren enjoyed the “family name” tradition: Granddaughter, LauraAshley Crawford, daughter of Audrey Weathers Crawford; Grandsons, children of Benjamin and Marty Woodlief Weathers, Benjamin Ashley Weathers V (Finn), Owen Woodlief Weathers (Wood). They all called her MyLaura.

Laura was spiritually ready to abide with her Lord and Savior and son Benjamin who predeceased her. She will be missed.

Surviving: husband, Benjamin Ashley Weathers, III; daughter, Audrey Weathers Crawford; daughter-in-law, Marty Woodlief Weathers; grandchildren: Laura-Ashley Crawford, Benjamin Ashley Weathers, V “Finn”, Owen Woodlief Weathers “Wood”; brother, Clyde Douglas Rowe, Jr.; sisters: Deborah Rowe Kunselman, Frankie Rowe Drum, Kimberleah Rowe Sutton.

In addition to her parents, Laura was preceded in death by her beloved son, Benjamin Ashley Weathers, IV.

The family will receive friends and family at Weathering Oaks Farm, 1625 Davistown Road, Wendell, NC  27591 from 4:00 to 6:00 pm, on Thursday, July 16, 2020.

Laura requested that flowers be omitted and memorial contributions may be made to Laura Weathers Grandchildren’s Education Fund at First Citizens Bank, P.O. Box 549, Knightdale, NC 27545.
