Steve Grygas
CMA 1962/1963

Mr. Stephen Michael Grygas, Sr., 71, passed away Monday, January 30, 2017.

Mr. Grygas was born in Hackensack, NJ and the son of the late Michael G. and Winifred Ahrens Grygas. He was of the Methodist faith and retired from Yellow Freight. Mr. Grygas always embraced the lake life whether it was sitting on the deck or in the water. He spent many summers at his beloved cottage in Canada with family and friends. He enjoyed the competitive game of Pinochle and Bridge. Stephen cherished visits from the grandchildren and loved creating life long memories with them. An avid sports enthusiast, he loved all things sports related and was an athlete in his high school and college days. "Paw Steve" will be dearly missed during the Panthers and Hornets games with his oldest granddaughter as very few games were without the other. Stephen proudly served his country in the United States Army and loved traveling the world while stationed in many places. Stephen loved beach music and never met a dance partner he could not shag with. His legacy will forever live on through laughter and the sound of a wave breaking against the shore.

Mr. Grygas is survived by his son, Stephen Michael Grygas, Jr. of Rock Hill; his daughters, Kimberly G. Snipes (Christopher) of Catawba, Meredith Leigh-Ann Grygas of Catawba, and Christian Grygas Coogle (David) of Morgantown, WV; and his grandchildren, Ahren Elizabeth Grygas, Anna Grace Coogle, and Ethan James Coogle.

A gathering of family and friends will be 6:00 until 7:30 PM, Saturday, February 4, 2017 at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill, SC

The family request memorials be sent to York County Board of Disabilities, P.O. Box 30, Rock Hill, SC 29731.

Steve always spoke fondly of the academy and the lifetime of memories that he gained there. To know Steve was to love his sense of humor. He was always a character and if there are any stories that could be shared with the family we would appreciate them.
