Roderick MacNeill.ROBERSONVILLE - On Monday, June 5, 2006 Roderick "Rod" MacNeill passed away at Pitt County Memorial Hospital. His funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Biggs Funeral Home Chapel in Robersonville with the Rev. Mary Ellen Bender officiating; burial will be at Hamilton Cemetery. He was born in Robeson County on April 23, 1947 to the late Luther "Buster" and Bobbie Weaver MacNeill. He was a graduate of Carolina Military Academy in Maxton in 1965. He then attended East Carolina University and graduated from Pembroke University. He was the co-owner of Harrison-Crawford-Manning-Sparrow Insurance Agency. Rod was an avid sports fan especially the East Carolina University Pirates Club where he attended all their ball games. He started his "little girl" in sports at the young age of 4 and she continued to be his constant companion at the ECU games. Rod was a compassionate people person and loved everybody especially his family. He was a wonderful person and a very good man. He enjoyed fishing with his buddies, going to the ECU games, and relaxing at the beach with friends. He was an Air Force Veteran and a member of the Robersonville United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a daughter, Laurel Ann MacNeill on March 3, 1981. He was married on Oct. 12, 1974 to Hope Davis MacNeill who survives. In addition to his wife he is survived by a daughter, Jennifer MacNeill of Greenville; brother, Robert Weaver "Chip" MacNeill of Marston; and a special family, the Jenkins Family. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at Biggs Funeral Home in Robersonville and other times at the residence, 106 East Nelson St. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the ECU Pirates Club Educational Foundation Ward Sports Medicine, Suite 304, Greenville, NC 27858 or the Martin County Dept. of Social Services "Christmas Fund for Children," P.O. Box 809, Williamston, NC 27892. Arrangements by Biggs Funeral Home in Robersonville.

 

Rod suffered from fibromyalgia and lymphoma and while in a weakened state after chemotherapy he fell and hit his head, cause of death was due to the fall. He is survived by his wife Hope, his daughter Jennifer.

Randy Jennings (1963)

From His Wife, Hope

Rod died June 5, 2006 from head injuries sustained in a fall. He also was batteling Lymphoma Rod was such a people person and was very caring.

I really appreciate all the hard work that has been done to create the site. It is good for Jennifer and I to be able to look back and remember Rod and his friends that we are familiar with.
